Come and enjoy island life! I’ve always called the Azores, the Hawaii of Europe.
This was my parents first home. I inherited it when they passed away. I since have completely remodeled it. It once was a very typical Pico home with a lot of tiny rooms. I did away with the tiny rooms and remodeled the house with no walls only for the bathroom and closet. I wanted to lay in bed and look out all of the windows. This is now what I call a very large studio however it could easily be a 1 or 2 bedroom house.
Hot water is normally heated by a propane box called an "esquintador." I had tried this way after I remodeled and every time I arrived there, the water was always cold and there was always an issue and sometimes I would leave my stay without any hot water!! Finally, after the 3rd time of visits with issues I replaced the old heating system with a NEW hot water heater. It's modern and works every time. I have never had an issue with heating water.
Last summer (2022) when I was visiting from the USA where I live, it was an incredibly humid summer. I could not sleep, as it was so hot and humid. I installed a new Air Conditioning unit. Not a lot of homes have Air Conditioning so it's a big treat to have one. I hope you enjoy it. It’s turned on using a remote control.
UPDATE:
In November I replaced my old mattresses with comfortable, long mattresses,
double bed measuring 1.50 wide and 1.95 long single bed measuring 0.95 wide and 1.95 long.
The bathroom is my favorite room. I love my shower. Again, not many homes have a modern bathroom. It's a real treat.
I hope you enjoy the many improvements I have made to my oasis in Pico Island! My parents hometown
Santa Luzia where Casa Fitz is located is very central and I believe one of the best views of our beautiful volcano. If you love hiking, it's the perfect start to enjoying all the lovely trails.
Lajido, a small area near the ocean, down from the house has the Volcanic Museum. It’s a great little museum you can learn the history of the volcanic activity in the Azores. Next to it is a Wine tasting Museum. You can taste the liquors of the Azores.
Stop into Cafe Freitas for a morning espresso or galao and croissant to start your day and say hello.
Cafe Arcos is the place to be in the late evening to hang out with the locals. They have wonderful local food, drink and salads.
There is a portable hot spot in the house. The internet is not very reliable. I cannot promise the internet and Wi-Fi to be working during your stay. If it’s windy it sometimes will not work.
